シロアリは害虫として嫌われていますが、とても高度な社会性をもった昆虫です。集合体として繁栄するためにシロアリは個々に役割を持っています。
ジェームズ・ジャックと越後正志はシロアリの生態系のリサーチをしてきました。本展示は、小豆島の家の土壁から作られたシロアリの巣と制作のリサーチプロセスの紹介です。私たちは巣に使われた土を水に溶かして絵の具を作りました。そして、シロアリの視点から世界を考えたドローイングを子供たちとドローイングを描きました。シロアリが作りだす巣の複雑性や子供たちの想像性は、私たち大人が人間主体の視点から一旦離れるための手がかりをを与えてくれます。

Coexisting with More Than Humans – Cultivating Art
Termites are often disliked as pests, but they are highly social insects. Each termite has a specific role to play in order to thrive as a collective.
James Jack and Masashi Echigo have been researching the termite ecosystem. This exhibition introduces a termite nest made from the earthen walls of a house on Shodoshima Island and the research process behind its creation. We dissolved the soil used in the nest in water to create paint. Then, we drew drawings with children, imagining the world from the termite's perspective. The complexity of the termite nest and the children's imagination offer clues for us adults to step back from our human-centric perspective.
